Life’s Big Questions And The Surreal Paintings Of New York Painter Joel Rea

I always tag my paintings with explanatory notes, and there I present my feelings, humility, experiences with life’s larger questions, dream images, and the backdrop of precious nature in full measure. I am painter Joel Rea, planning to present my paintings in a single exhibition called “Beasts Of Arcadia” in Jonathan Levine Gallery, New York from September 12 through October 10,2015, to make it known to the world.

Some of the big questions begging answers include “Solo” featuring a Tiger swimming solo in big tides, “Other Side” where a man is on a rock on one side while a tiger waits on another rock on the other side, “Elevation” where a man is up above the yawning mouth of a tiger, and “Conquest” where a tiger climbs up a post in water when high tides swell on the pole. All these pictures really pose big questions of life for which no satisfactory answers or explanations can readily come forth. It is like “A devil and the deep sea.”
